Double Take

A victim of pride

Pride causes you to see yourself as the victim.  You think, “I was mistreated and my actions, misconstrued; so I’m justified in my behavior.” Because you believe you’re innocent and falsely accused, you hold back forgiveness.  Even though your true heart’s condition is hidden from you, it’s not hidden from God.  Just because you were mistreated, you don’t have permission to hold on to an offense.

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.  2 Timothy 2:24-26 (NIV, 2011)

Faith is great; love, greater.

[…] without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6

[… ]if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2

But the greatest of these is love.

Courage to Speak

Do not be afraid to speak to all whom He has sent you to speak.  The words are not yours to utter with caution. Proclaim His wisdom.  He speaks through you.

“Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’  You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.  Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.  Then the Lord reached out His hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth.  See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”  -Jeremiah 1:6-10

Two Hands

I use one hand to pull you closer

The other to push you away…

If I had two hands

Worry implies that we don’t quite trust that God is big enough, powerful enough, or loving enough to take care of what’s happening in our lives.

Stress says that the things we are involved in are important enough to merit our impatience, our lack of grace toward others, or our tight grip of control.

About

Sometimes, when I see or hear something that I find remarkable (I want to remember it for the sake of its new-found importance in my life), I will read it again or go through it in my head again, and again, and...again.

A double take on something I want to retain and use in my life, because I know it will help me grow.
